How is NDIS transport funding paid to participants?

It depends on how your plan is managed. Self-managed participants pay for transport and claim reimbursement through the myplace portal. Plan-managed participants have their plan manager pay providers directly from the transport budget. NDIA-managed participants receiving a transport allowance get it paid fortnightly into their bank account.

What can NDIS transport funding be used for?

NDIS transport funding can be used for travel to work, study, day programs, medical appointments, therapy, allied health, community participation and social activities. The trip must relate to your NDIS goals and be reasonable and necessary.

Can NDIS transport funding be used for taxis or rideshare?

Yes. Self-managed and plan-managed participants can use their transport budget for taxis, rideshare and specialist transport services like CareDrive, provided the trip is reasonable and necessary. Agency-managed participants must use registered NDIS providers.

Can I use NDIS transport funding for family holidays or day-to-day errands?

No. NDIS transport funding is not for general living expenses, holidays, recreational travel unrelated to goals, or trips that would normally be covered by family or carers. It is specifically for disability-related travel that supports your plan goals.

Do support coordinators need to book transport for participants?

Support coordinators and plan managers can book transport on a participant's behalf. CareDrive accepts bookings from coordinators and issues itemised invoices mapped to NDIS transport line items for easy plan-manager payment.
