What is NDIS Social and Community Participation transport?

It is transport that helps a participant get to social, recreational and community activities — day programs, art or music groups, sport, church, shopping trips, library visits, community centres and catch-ups with friends. The travel itself is usually funded from the Transport category of Core Supports, while the support worker time during an activity may sit under Assistance with Social and Community Participation.

Which budget pays for community access transport?

Most participants use the Transport line in their Core Supports budget for the ride. Where the trip is part of building a skill or working towards a goal — for example learning a new route or attending a program — Capacity Building: Increased Social and Community Participation may fund the supported activity. CareDrive invoices are itemised so your plan manager can allocate them to the correct line.

Can a support worker or family member travel with me?

Yes. A support worker, carer or family member can travel with you at no extra passenger charge, subject to seating in the vehicle you book. Tell us at booking so we send a vehicle with enough seats.

Can I book the same driver for a weekly activity?

We schedule recurring community access trips in advance and keep the same driver where availability allows, so a weekly day program or social group feels familiar rather than a different stranger each week.

How is this different from using a rideshare app?

Rideshare drivers are dispatched on demand with no disability training, no guarantee of a wheelchair accessible vehicle, no waiting time and no invoice suited to NDIS claiming.
